Geekout on a New TableTop Game!

new table top games

Gaming is a great way to meet new people and share time with your friends and family, so why not try a new tabletop game today?  I’m not talking about monopoly and other games that most of us are bored of playing.  There are a ton of board games being published now every month.  There is a absolute ton of roleplaying games to checkout too, and last but not least, miniature war gaming is one of my favourite!

Geek Challenge:

Purchase and play a new game this month.  Give the game a true chance by playing at least one game a week for the 30 days. Joining a gaming club is a great way to get in these games, and meet new friends.  You can usually find these gaming clubs online on social Media like Facebook, or doing a general search using Google.  The easiest way to find a gaming group though is to simply ask at your local gaming store.

Board Games and Card Games:

As I’ve already mentioned there are a ton of board games being produced every month, and a great place to get suggestions is over at Board Game Geek.  There you will find an awesome community, and ratings on the top board games.  Two games I suggest you checkout are Hex Hex by smirk and dagger, and Small World by days of Wonder. If you’ve played Risk before then you’ll love Small world, and if you love social games in general, then playing Hex Hex is an amazing game!

Roleplaying Games:

If you are short on time, and just want to learn one set of rules that will allow you to play in any world, then Pathfinder is the way to do it! Pathfinder is a roleplaying system that allows you to role play in any world, so instead of learning a ton of different rules systems, you only need to know one.  It is a great place to start when it comes to roleplaying games.

Miniature Gaming:

This is usually more competitive and less cooperative then roleplaying or board gaming, but many miniature games have a great hobby aspect to them as well.  If painting miniatures isn’t something you’re interested in, then I suggest you checkout the Star Wars miniature game.  It has great looking pre-assembled and painted miniatures that will have you making sound effects like phew phew phew.  If you really like the idea of being creative, then I suggest you try either one of the Warhammer miniature games or Warmachine, simply because these are the most popular, which means it should be easy to find opponents to play.

Trying a new game can be a little daunting, but playing a new game can lead to new friends, and a great deal of fun. So order a new game today, and geekout at home with friends, or discover a new community of people in your local area.  Even small towns usually have a few gamers! Don’t just settle for the same old, same old, expand your horizons, and you never know where it may take you!

  • Nice! I’ve always been a little intimidated by tabletop games. We usually stick to DnD or Munchkin! Pathfinder looks interesting though!

The new Star Wars miniature game doesn’t involve any painting, and there are many tutorials on Youtube. It is a great place to start. I love the idea of Pathfinder, but I’m more of a DnD person like you. If you are interested the d6generation.com has a podcast reviewing the system…check it out!

  • Cool thanks! I may do that!
